The Empower Network | Most Common Leadership Styles

The Empower Network | Leadership | Discover Your Leadership StyleHere are the most common Leadership styles and a description of each so you can decide which styles you want to develop for The Empower Network and your team.

Charismatic Leader – is the very similar to the Transformational Leader. A Charismatic Leader evokes enthusiasm and focuses on leading the team onward and upward. While these characteristics are very appealing, one must take into account that a Charismatic Leader can tend to believe more in themselves then in the team. This can pose as a threat to the team if the Leader were to leave because the team members solely rely on the success of the Leader. This type of Leadership has a huge amount of responsibilities and needs a high level of commitment. Great Charismatic Leaders of our time include Barack Obama and John F. Kennedy.

Task Oriented Leader – this type of Leader wants to get the job done. They are more focused on the task at hand, then the team. They will put structure in place, plan, organize and monitor. This type of is not always the best because team members tend to lack motivation from the Task-Orientated Leader. These types of Leaders can benefit greatly if they learn how to get involved with people more. Would this style work for The Empower Network?

Autocratic Leader – Autocratic Leaders exert a form of Transactional Leaders. They exert a great deal of power over their team members. Many benefits of teamwork are lost because most members resent the way they are being treated. Team members have very little opportunities and input with Autocratic Leaders.

Transactional Leader – This type of Leader has the team members promising that they will do the job the way the Leader wants it done. The Leader here has the right to punish the member if the job is not done. There is little members can do to improve their job satisfaction with a Transactional Leader. This is not really a style for The Empower Network.

Transformational Leader – This is the type of Leadership we should all aim for. A Transformational Leader inspires their fellow team members to share in a vision for the future. Much like Dave wood and Dave Sharpe have done with The Empower Network. Transformational Leaders are true Leaders and will delegate tasks within the organization as well as communicating well, and offering lots of enthusiasm. Transformational Leadership is by the most sought after and taught in Leadership classes and training.

Servant Leader – Is somebody at any level within the team when a leader is not recognized as the Leader. They simply lead to meet the needs of the team members. A Servant Leader often will get lost in the mix with other people who use different Leadership styles. Servant Leaders achieve their power by their values and standards.

Participative Leader – also known as Democratic Leadership is when team members are invited by the Leader to contribute in any decisions. This will increase the team members satisfaction because it gives them a sense of control over the team. This type of Leadership is amazing for teamwork because quality becomes more important then speed.

People-Oriented Leader – People-orientated Leaders are person centered. They concentrate on the person as a whole. This is the opposite of Task-Oriented Leadership although most teams will incorporate both into the team. Incorporate them into The Empower Network and your own team and your are sure to great results.
